I recently took a couple of clients onboard Oceania Vista in Darwin for a closer look at the ship.
What stood out most is how easy the ship is to spend time on.
Nothing felt crowded or overdesigned, and the spaces flow in a way that makes longer days onboard feel comfortable rather than busy.
Open Deck & Outdoor Spaces
The open deck areas have a calm, unhurried feel.
There’s space to sit, read, or simply spend time outside without feeling like you need to compete for it.
It’s the kind of layout that works particularly well on sea days, or warmer itineraries where you naturally spend more time outdoors.
Dining
Dining is clearly a focus. Not just in the number of venues, but in the consistency across them.
It feels considered rather than excessive, with enough variety to carry through a longer sailing without it becoming repetitive.
Interiors & Artwork
The interiors are cohesive and well balanced.
There’s a consistency to the design that you don’t always find, even on newer ships.
It’s comfortable without feeling overdone.
Accommodation
The accommodation follows the same approach. Spacious, well laid out, and somewhere you’d actually choose to spend time.
Where Vista Fits
A good option if you’re looking for:
- A more relaxed onboard environment without the scale of larger ships
- Strong dining with genuine variety across the voyage
- A step up from premium, without the formality or cost of ultra-luxury
Probably less suited if:
- You prefer a highly structured or entertainment-heavy experience
Close-to-Home Itineraries
Here are a couple of close-to-home itineraries that are worth considering.
Sydney to Auckland (12 days)
23 December 2027 – 4 January 2028
A straightforward option where the travel is easy and the ship itself becomes part of the experience.
This is the type of routing that tends to work particularly well with Vista.
A well-timed sailing over the Christmas and New Year period, with a mix of coastal Australia and New Zealand.
This is where Vista comes into its own—balanced days, simple logistics, and time to actually enjoy being onboard.
Fares from approximately $8,530 per person
Includes:
- All speciality dining
- Shipboard gratuities
- Unlimited WiFi
- Choice of wine and beer with meals, or shore excursion credit

Sydney to Bali (15 days)
26 February – 13 March 2027
A longer sailing through Australia and into Indonesia, finishing in Bali.
This is the type of itinerary that suits Vista particularly well—warmer weather, more time outdoors, and a good balance between time ashore and time to actually enjoy the ship.
Fares from approximately $9,470 per person
Includes:
- All speciality dining
- Shipboard gratuities
- Unlimited WiFi
- Choice of wine and beer with meals, or shore excursion credit
