Epic Trip to Egypt
Not all journeys are created equal. Some are crafted with purpose, shaped by personal passions and deep interests. This exclusive itinerary was meticulously designed for a traveller with a keen fascination for megalithic structures, blending archaeology, engineering marvels, and the mysteries of Egypt’s most enduring monuments.
From the precision-cut granite of the Unfinished Obelisk in Aswan to the colossal statues of Abu Simbel, every moment of this journey has been curated to showcase the ingenuity of ancient builders. These structures, hewn from stone with techniques still debated by historians, reveal the unparalleled craftsmanship of Egypt’s master architects.
A Journey Through Egypt’s Greatest Megalithic Wonders
Sailing the Nile
From Temple Foundations to Enigmatic Stones
Drift along the lifeblood of ancient Egypt, the Nile, toward Edfu and Kom Ombo, where towering temples stand as testaments to a civilisation that shaped history. The massive sandstone walls of the Temple of Horus rise with precise symmetry, while the twin sanctuaries of Kom Ombo showcase expertly carved hieroglyphs depicting surgical tools - an insight into the scientific knowledge of the time.
Karnak & Luxor Temples
In the city of Thebes, now known as Luxor, you’ll discover two of the most powerful ancient complexes: the Karnak Temple and the Luxor Temple.
Karnak’s grand Hypostyle Hall features 134 towering columns and reflects successive pharaohs’ ambition over 1,500 years, while Luxor Temple exudes a more intimate enchantment by night, with statues of Ramesses II and obelisks that once echoed Egypt’s divine kingship.
Abu Simbel
The Engineering Feat of a Megalithic Age
A highlight of this journey, Abu Simbel’s colossal statues of Ramses II are a true megalithic marvel. Standing at nearly 21 metres high, these imposing figures were originally carved directly into a mountainside and later relocated piece by piece to protect them from the rising waters when Lake Nasser was formed between 1964 and 1976, after the construction of Aswan High Dam. It is one of the greatest archaeological rescue missions of the modern era & involved .
The Unfinished Obelisk
A Window into Ancient Engineering
In Aswan’s granite quarries lies a remarkable sight—the Unfinished Obelisk, a project that would have become the largest stone monument of its kind had it not fractured during construction. This site offers a rare glimpse into the stone-cutting techniques of ancient Egypt, revealing how these enormous monoliths were shaped and transported thousands of years ago.
Saqqara & The Serapeum
Underground Megaliths
Moving to Cairo, this itinerary takes a deep dive into the necropolis of Saqqara, home to the world’s first pyramid—the Step Pyramid of Djoser. Yet, beyond this architectural breakthrough, another mystery awaits beneath the sands—the Serapeum of Saqqara. Here, massive granite sarcophagi, each weighing over 70 tonnes, rest in underground tunnels, leaving archaeologists questioning how they were transported and precisely positioned within the chamber’s confines.
The Great Pyramid of Khufu
Stepping Inside an Ancient Wonder
No journey for a megalithic enthusiast would be complete without stepping inside the Great Pyramid of Giza. This experience is far beyond a typical tourist visit—this itinerary grants exclusive access to stand within the Grand Gallery and gaze upon the King’s Chamber, where the perfectly cut stone blocks fit together with millimetric precision, without the use of mortar. The question remains: how did the ancient Egyptians achieve such architectural accuracy?
Abydos & Dendera
Venturing north of Luxor, the sacred temple of Abydos stands among Egypt’s most atmospheric sites. Built by Seti I and completed by Ramesses II, it hosts the famous King List and the mysterious subterranean Osireion.
Nearby, the Dendera Temple Complex glows with colour; inside the temple of Hathor you’ll find vivid ceiling paintings and the astrological Dendera Zodiac.
Both temples are remarkably well preserved and far less crowded than many group tour destinations.
A Museum of Megaliths
The Egyptian Museum (EMC)
The itinerary culminates with a visit to the Egyptian Museum, where some of history’s greatest megalithic artifacts, including colossal statues, stelae, and intricately carved sarcophagi, are displayed.
The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM)
Newly opened & situated near the Giza pyramids, this modern structure offers vastly expanded galleries, state of the art display halls, & will house the full Tutankhamun.
A Journey as Unique as the Traveller
Every detail of this itinerary was custom-designed to align with the traveller’s passion for megalithic structures, historical engineering, and ancient archaeology. This is more than a holiday—it is an immersive expedition crafted to uncover the secrets of stone, revealing the brilliance of a civilisation whose innovations continue to inspire awe.
