Cruise Check-In, Boarding and Embarkation Guide

Cruising should be enjoyable from the moment you book to the day you return home. This guide is designed to help you prepare for embarkation and ensure your cruise begins smoothly.

As your dedicated cruise specialist, I am always available to assist if you require support at any stage.

Online Cruise Check-In

Most cruise lines require guests to complete an online check-in prior to departure.

During this process, you will:

  • Submit passport and personal details

  • Nominate emergency contacts

  • Enter special requests or medical requirements

  • Select arrival times where applicable

  • Review booking details

  • Access shore excursions and onboard services

It is strongly recommended that you complete this as soon as it becomes available to:

  • Secure preferred boarding times

  • Reduce terminal waiting times

  • Confirm all documentation is accurate

Below you will find links to most major cruise lines.

Luggage and Baggage Information

Cruise luggage tags are provided either digitally or within your cruise documents.

Preparation

  • Print and attach luggage tags before arriving at the terminal

  • Use plastic holders or secure with tape

  • Keep valuables, medications and essentials in your carry-on bag

At the terminal, porters will collect your luggage and deliver it to your stateroom later in the day.

If you are unable to print your luggage tags, most cruise lines will have staff on hand to complete & attach luggage tags for you.

Baggage Guidelines

Most cruise lines do not impose strict baggage limits.

As a general guideline:

  • Aim for approximately 20 kg per bag

  • Pack only what you can manage independently

  • Allow for limited cabin storage space

If luggage tags are misplaced or damaged, replacements are available at the terminal.

Boarding and Embarkation Day

Good preparation makes embarkation efficient and stress-free.

Documents to Carry

Keep the following in your hand luggage:

  • Passport

  • Cruise documents

  • Visa (if required)

  • Boarding pass or mobile app

  • Travel insurance details

  • Credit card

Using a document wallet or folder is recommended.

Terminal Process

You will:

  1. Present identification and documents

  2. Receive your cruise card (room key and onboard account)

  3. Register your onboard payment method

  4. Pass through security screening

  5. Board the vessel

Your cruise card is used for cabin access and all onboard purchases.

Mandatory Safety Drill

All passengers must complete a safety briefing shortly after boarding.

This may be conducted in person or via the ship’s app or television system.

Participation is compulsory and must be completed before departure.

If You Miss Your Ship’s Departure

If you are delayed and miss your ship:

  1. Contact the cruise line immediately

  2. Refer to emergency numbers in your travel documents

  3. Retain all receipts for additional expenses

  4. Contact Holidays Beckon as soon as possible

Depending on your circumstances:

  • Travel insurance may provide coverage

  • Cruise line air packages may offer assistance

  • Arrangements may be made to rejoin the ship at a later port

I will assist you in managing this process wherever possible.
